STATEHOUSE – State Representatives Wendy McNamara (R-Mount Vernon) and Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) presented House Resolution (HR) 41 to Jon Siau today at Evansville North High School. Both legislators co-authored the resolution. Siau, an art teacher, is retiring after a 42 year tenure that began in the fall of 1971. “Our resolution honors an outstanding local teacher,” said Rep. McNamara. “With Jon’s retirement, he is leaving behind an incredible legacy and example of what it means to go above and beyond to serve children. His exemplary service did not go unnoticed.” In 2006, Siau won the American Star of Teaching Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Siau was the only art teacher to receive this national award. He has also won the Project E Award and the Power of Art Award, along with being selected as 2008 semi-finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year, and selected to the USA Today’s All-USA Teacher Team in 1999. “Jon Siau was very active in the Evansville community,” said Rep. Crouch. “He created pieces for the Evansville Coalition for the Homeless, the Hands on Discovery Children’s Museum, Goodwill, the United Way, and even the United States Olympic Committee. All of which were incredible and inspiring to see.” Outside of art, Siau was a very successful coach at the high school varsity level. He coached four All-Americans and five state champions. Siau was also named Coach of the Year in Cross Country, Track, Girls Tennis and Girls Golf. -30- Rep. McNamara (R-Mt. Vernon) represents portions of Posey and Vanderburgh counties. Rep.
