STATEHOUSE (Dec. 29, 2025) – State Reps. Chris May (R-Bedford) and Steve Bartels (R-Eckerty) said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
May said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative. The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. Pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"I am always thrilled to see students from my district engage with their government, and our page program is a chance for them to do that," May said. "Pages will spend a day learning the ins and outs of the legislative process and many are inspired to get involved in their own communities after participating."
Bartels said the program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. "Our page program gets Hoosier students directly involved with state government," Bartels said. "It is an excellent learning experience for all students, particularly those with career interests in government and public service."
Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
