STATEHOUSE (July 11, 2024) – State Reps. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and Lorissa Sweet (R-Wabash) recently received appointments to serve on interim study committees, which will meet throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work together to identify solutions.

Legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts and stakeholders as they work on bill recommendations ahead of the budget session in January.

Lehman will serve as a member on the Interim Study Committee on Commerce and Economic Development, the Artificial Intelligence Task Force, Legislative Council, Legislative State of Emergency Advisory Group, Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission. He will also chair the Legislative Council's Audit and Financial Reporting Subcommittee and the Oral History Project Advisory Commission, and co-chair the Legislative Continuity Committee.

"Having these discussions over the interim provides lawmakers the chance to examine a variety of proposed topics geared toward improving the lives of Hoosiers," Lehman said. "This summer and fall, the Artificial Intelligence Task Force will do a deep dive on the use of artificial intelligence technology within state agencies and the potential risks that come with this new technology."

Sweet will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Government.

"Interim study committees are a great time for lawmakers to take a deeper dive into various issues and consider solutions that can improve the lives of our constituents," Sweet said. "For this committee, we'll look for ways to improve and streamline state government operations and to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used wisely."
