STATEHOUSE (Dec. 18, 2024) – State Reps. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. Lehman, elected to his first term in 2008, will serve as a member of the House Insurance Committee, House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, and the House Public Policy Committee.
"These committees are the starting point in tackling issues that constituents are facing to ensure their voices are heard," Lehman said. "During the 2025 legislative session, I look forward to examining key policy areas that impact our district such as supporting economic development and the continual discussion regarding health care access and cost."
Prescott will serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, House Elections and Apportionment Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee. Prescott said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
"I'm honored to serve on these important committees and look forward to working with my colleagues to address the critical issues facing our state," Prescott said. "Committee work is the foundation of the legislative process, and I'm eager to work on policies that will benefit Indiana."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
