STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) – Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded local communities over $1.2 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to State Reps. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and J.D. Prescott (R-Union City).
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
"The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program enables us to meet our local infrastructure needs while strategically planning for the years ahead," Lehman said. "Road maintenance and improvements are necessary for growth and ensuring the safety of Hoosiers, and a well-developed infrastructure plan plays a critical role in attracting new businesses and residents to our thriving communities."
Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by ConsumerAffairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.
Area grant recipients include Dunkirk ($143,126), Jay County ($1 million) and Portland ($76,575).
Prescott said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
"These grants are a great way for state and local governments to collaborate to make meaningful improvements," Prescott said. "By enhancing our roads and bridges, we can guarantee safer travel for all Hoosiers."
