STATEHOUSE – During a recent awards ceremony, State Representatives Christopher Judy (R-Fort Wayne) and Denny Zent (R-Angola), along with other elected officials, received the American Legion, Department of Indiana’s Distinguished Public Service Award. Hosted by the Indiana American Legion, the awards were presented to Reps. Judy and Zent for their exceptional devotion and dedication to serving Hoosier veterans.
“I am very grateful and humbled to receive the Distinguished Public Service Award,” said Rep. Judy. “As a veteran, I understand the challenges the brave men and women who defend our country face when transitioning from military service to civilian life. This past session, I was privileged to have the opportunity to address various veteran concerns, and in the future, I will continue my work to make Indiana a welcoming environment for those who serve or are returning to civilian life.”
Reps. Judy and Zent joined legion members during their 97th annual Indiana American Legion Convention. The organization has more than 100,000 members that work to unite and serve veterans in their local communities. Additionally, the department works to distribute information on veterans’ benefits, concerns and helpful resources to benefit both active and prior service members and their families.
The award was presented to Reps. Judy and Zent for their support and work to benefit veterans during the past legislative session, specifically for working on the following bills: Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 298, voluntary veterans’ preference employment policy and House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1456, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Both laws went into effect on July 1.
"I am extremely honored and grateful to receive this Distinguished Public Service Award," said Rep. Zent," "As a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the Air Force, I am a staunch advocate for veterans and military issues. Countless brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and free, and they deserve a strong voice in government. My recent selection as Vice Chairman of the Interim Study Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs will enable me to ensure that the promises made to my fellow veterans are kept."
