STATEHOUSE (Aug. 3, 2023) – State Reps. Matt Hostettler (R-Patoka) and Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) recently received interim study committee appointments and will take a deep dive into issues facing Hoosiers as they prepare for the next legislative session in January.
Lawmakers serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy topics, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.
Hostettler will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor, and the Interim Study Committee on Public Policy.
"Professionals with occupational licenses who are moving to Indiana should be able to continue working in their chosen careers without going through mountains of red tape," Hostettler said. "We need to make that transition as seamless as possible, so that new residents can start working more quickly and put down roots here. As part of the committee on employment, I look forward to diving into this issue and seeing how we can make the process better."
Ledbetter will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health and Human Services. She will also serve on the Indiana Behavioral Health Commission and the Indiana Commission to Combat Drug Abuse.
"As someone who works in the health care field, I look forward to jumping into a wide range of topics this interim, from increasing childcare options to connecting more struggling Hoosiers to lifesaving mental health and addiction services," Ledbetter said. "We'll also be taking an in-depth look at the impact of mental illness among our veterans and first responders and find ways to help."
Members of the public are welcome to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
