STATEHOUSE (Sept. 14, 2026) – State Reps. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) and Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
Heaton said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
"The skills students develop at the Statehouse can serve them well no matter what their career path may be," Heaton said. "The fast-paced, professional environment empowers them with skills that transfer to whatever opportunity they take next."
Heaton said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
Yocum said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Interns play an important role in helping us serve Hoosiers during session while they build the skills and connections to launch their careers," Yocum said. "There are unique opportunities for all students to learn and contribute at the Statehouse."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
