Reps. Haggard, Mayfield: Local communities receive road funding from state

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 11, 2025) – Local communities received over $1.3 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to State Reps. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) and Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville).

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, established through a law House Republicans passed in 2016, offers funding to local communities for road repairs, bridge maintenance, intersection upgrades and other infrastructure projects. Nearly 200 communities received $100 million in state matching grants for this round of funding.

"Whether someone is driving to work, school or the grocery store, well-maintained roads matter and these matching grants help communities deliver important infrastructure projects," Haggard said. "Community Crossings continues to be a smart use of Hoosier taxpayer dollars, keeping our roads safe and economy moving."

Area grant recipients include Mooresville ($799,804) and Morgan County ($574,449).

Mayfield noted that to be eligible for funding, smaller municipalities must contribute 20 percent in local funds, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. State guidelines also ensure that half of the available matching funds each year are directed to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, the Community Crossings program has invested over $2 billion in enhancing local roads and bridges.

"Maintaining quality roads is essential for public safety and economic growth," Mayfield said. "Community Crossings Matching Grants make these improvements achievable for local governments to address immediate needs and long-term infrastructure planning."
