STATEHOUSE (Nov. 6, 2023) – Significant state funding is in route to Grant County communities to help complete road and bridge projects, according to State Reps. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) and Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo).

State funding is available for local projects through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, including road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, and other items. In total, over 180 towns, cities, and counties will receive more than $91 million in state matching grants.

"Indiana's infrastructure has been greatly boosted by support from the Community Crossings program," said State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion). "It's encouraging to see local and state leaders work together on projects like these, and I hope to see continued partnerships in the future."

Area grant recipients include Gas City ($127,110), Jonesboro ($139,726) and Sweetser ($152,625).

"Indiana's fiscal health remains strong and that's why we're able to continue making investments in local communities, and this state grant delivers tangible results for taxpayers," Karickhoff said. "It's great to see small and rural communities use this opportunity to make much-needed improvements to their infrastructure."

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
