STATEHOUSE (Jan. 22, 2018) — State Reps. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) and Steve Davisson (R-Salem) recognized the Lanesville High School baseball team at the Statehouse today for their victory in the Class 1A state baseball championship.
“Our community is extremely proud of these young athletes,” Engleman said. “Their ability to succeed both on the field and in the classroom is a true testament to their values and dedication.”
The championship game was at Victory Field in Indianapolis on June 16, 2017. Ending their season on a 12-game winning streak, the Eagles were able to surpass their 2016 achievement of state championship runners-up.
“The Eagles had yet another outstanding season,” Davisson said. “These players showed what hard work, determination, team spirit and sportsmanship looks like at the highest level of high school sports.”
The Eagles, ranked eighth in the state, were undefeated against all class 1A schools in Indiana. Lanesville defeated Rossville 5-1 to secure the state championship. This victory marks the first state championship earned by any Lanesville High School athletic team.
