STATEHOUSE (May 19, 2023) – State Reps. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) and Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville) joined Gov. Eric Holcomb on Wednesday to honor Trafalgar Police Department Officer Dustin Moody at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
Last June, Moody was seriously injured in the line of duty when he crashed his vehicle during a pursuit and became trapped. The Trafalgar community rallied together to assist him on his long road to recovery, and the Central Indiana Police Foundation helped raise funds for a new van and to convert it to be accessible for him.
Greene authored and Davis co-authored a House Resolution to recognize Moody, and his dedication to public service, and joined the governor in presenting the honor to Moody, his wife, Emily, and young sons, Nolan and Bennett, in the governor's office.
"Officer Moody is a prime example of the phrase 'protect and serve,'" Greene said. "It's nothing short of a tragedy that he had to go through such a dramatic accident, but he has shown the same courage and commitment in his recovery as he did as an officer of the law. I wish him and his family all the best as they continue to heal from this event, and I believe I speak for many Hoosiers when I say we are so grateful Officer Moody is still with us today."
"I'm so thankful for Officer Moody's service and dedication to our Johnson County community," Davis said. "Every day when police officers put on their uniforms, they know there is a chance they may not come home after their shift. The resilience he continues to show in his recovery is not only inspiring, but also a reminder of what true bravery looks like."
Officer Moody is a husband and father to two boys, and he's served in law enforcement for over 10 years. In 2019, he began work with the Trafalgar Police Department and became a full-time officer in December of 2020.
Holcomb also presented Officer Moody a Sagamore of the Wabash award, which is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
