STATEHOUSE (Aug. 3, 2023) – State Reps. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) and Matt Hostettler (R-Patoka) recently received interim study committee appointments and will take a deep dive into issues facing Hoosiers as they prepare for the next legislative session in January.
Lawmakers serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy topics, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.
Borders will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Commerce and Economic Development, and as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance.
"Advances in artificial intelligence continue to grow dramatically," Borders said. "We need to take a closer look at how this technology could have wide-ranging effects. We also want to explore ways that we can keep consumer data from falling into the wrong hands."
Hostettler will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor, and the Interim Study Committee on Public Policy.
"Professionals with occupational licenses who are moving to Indiana should be able to continue working in their chosen careers without going through mountains of red tape," Hostettler said. "We need to make that transition as seamless as possible, so that new residents can start working more quickly and put down roots here. As part of the committee on employment, I look forward to diving into this issue and seeing how we can make the process better."
Members of the public are welcome to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
