STATEHOUSE (Feb. 29, 2024) – Lake County natives Amanda Schreiber and Sydney Weiner are gaining experience as interns with State Reps. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron), Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) and their fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2024 legislative session.
"These interns work hard to help things run smoothly at the Statehouse during session," Aylesworth said. "Amanda and Sydney are doing a great job helping constituents and legislators during this busy time."
Schreiber, a Cedar Lake resident, is the daughter of Gary and Laura Schreiber. She is a graduate of Hanover Central High School and recently earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana State University Honors College with minors in Business and Law Administration.
“This has been a transformative experience learning about the process of legislation," Schreiber said. "Every task so far has allowed me to grow my communication and professional skills, which I will use in my future career."
As a communications intern, Schreiber helps write news releases, prepare handouts for legislators and create email newsletters for constituents.
Weiner, a Lakes of Four Seasons resident, is the daughter of Ian and Christine Weiner. A graduate of Crown Point High School, she is currently attending DePauw University majoring in economics and political science.
"Interning at the Statehouse has brought so many unique opportunities and challenges,” Weiner said. "I am excited to be a part of this process and will continue to enjoy learning new skills."
As a legislative intern, Weiner corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"From rewarding experiences to career connections, there is so much an internship at the Indiana Statehouse can offer," Olthoff said. "I have had the opportunity to see Amanda and Sydney pick up new skills as they work alongside legislators. I'm excited to see them use their talents and I also encourage interested students to apply for this opportunity next session.”
At the start of each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
