STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2024) – Kosciusko County communities can roll forward with road and bridge projects thanks to a recent boost in state funding supported by State Reps. David Abbott (R-Rome City) and Craig Snow (R-Warsaw).

A total of 252 communities across the state will receive over $207 million through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. Funds can be used for road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements and other items.

"It's vital that our roads and bridges are safe and functioning to keep Hoosiers moving," Abbott said. "Community Crossings is a great tool for local communities because it opens the door for additional funding, which allows for critical repairs and improvements to be made faster."

Area grant recipients include:

  • Leesburg, $76,876;
  • Nappanee, $826,707;
  • Silver Lake, $225,000;
  • Warsaw, $990,952; and
  • Winona Lake, $835,551.

"The funding from this program will be put to great use as local communities are able to make the necessary upgrades to update our roadways and bridges," Snow said. "Investing in local infrastructure will bring more residents to the area and boost our economy."

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.6 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
