Rep. Washburne appointed to lead Courts and Criminal Code Committee
STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced that State Representative Tom Washburne (R-Evansville) has been appointed to serve as Chairman of the Courts and Criminal Code Committee.
“A central responsibility of state government is to ensure that our justice system, which includes the courts, prosecutors and judges, operates as effectively and efficiently as possible. I consider it an honor to take on this task as Chairman of the Courts and Criminal Code Committee,” said Rep. Washburne.”
Standing committees are an essential part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and look into the details of proposed legislation before it can be heard on the House floor.
“Striking the appropriate balance to ensure that punishments fit the crime is an ongoing challenge for government. I look forward to working with members of this committee, listening to input from the public as well as experts in criminal justice field, to discuss and find solutions in order to move our justice system forward.”
Rep. Washburne holds a law degree and is admitted to practice law in both Indiana and Michigan. Full committee assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.
State Rep. Tom Washburne serves as Chairman of the Courts and Criminal Code Committee. Rep. Washburne represents the entirety of Gibson County and portions of Knox, Pike, Vanderburgh and Posey counties.
