STATEHOUSE (Jan. 29, 2025) – The Indiana House of Representatives on Monday unanimously approved State Rep. Heath VanNatter's (R-Kokomo) resolution to rename a section of State Road 75 in honor of fallen Carroll County sheriff's deputy Noah C. Rainey.
VanNatter said the resolution would rename a stretch of State Road 75 between County Road 700 S and County Road 800 S in Carroll County after Rainey, who was killed in the line of duty in January 2022.
"Deputy Rainey dedicated his life to serving and protecting our community and state," VanNatter said. "Carroll County lost a strong public servant, his department lost a partner, and his family lost a loving father and husband. Renaming a section of road after him is the least we can do to honor his memory and sacrifice."
Rainey along with jail deputy Dane Northcutt died early on Jan. 29, 2022, while responding to a call east of Rossville in Clinton County. Rainey had served with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office as a full-time deputy for three years and as a reserve deputy for one year. He had previously served with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office for three years and the Indiana Department of Correction for one year.
According to VanNatter, the stretch of road requested to be renamed is the last mile that Rainey traveled on during the morning that he passed.
House Concurrent Resolution 5 now moves to the Indiana Senate for further consideration. If the resolution passes through the General Assembly, the Indiana Department of Transportation can move forward with the road renaming in Carroll County.
