STATEHOUSE (Feb. 24, 2022) – Northwestern High School graduate Elijah Collins is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.
Collins, a resident of Kokomo, is the son of Chadwick and Andrea Collins. He is a sophomore at Purdue University majoring in agricultural engineering.
"I have enjoyed meeting new people every day in Statehouse," Collins said. "No day is ever the same and learning to listen to other people and their views on certain issues has been very beneficial."
As a legislative intern, Collins corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Elijah is networking and gaining practical experience while working closely with legislators and staff who are helping him build on his skills," VanNatter said. "It's always a pleasure to work with students like Elijah, and be a part of their experience and professional growth."
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
