STATEHOUSE (April 7, 2017) — State Sen. Jim Buck (R-Kokomo) and State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) today honored a locally owned family farm for being in operation for more than 150 years.

The Fleming farm, located in Howard County, was recognized at the Statehouse with a Hoosier Homestead award for over 150 years of family farm ownership.

The Fleming farm has been in operation since 1857 and received a sesquicentennial award.

“The Fleming farm has played a crucial role in Howard County and Indiana’s agriculture for over 150 years,” Buck said. “Family farms help our state thrive, and I am proud to have them in our community.”

“Indiana is a national leader in agriculture exports and families like the Flemings continue to drive our economy,” VanNatter said. “Family farms are an essential part of Hoosier communities and I congratulate the Flemings on their years of success.”

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
