(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 20, 2008 - Congratulations to the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation. The department last Wednesday received three service awards at the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association state conference.

"I am truly proud of the Valparaiso Parks and Recreation," said Rep. Ed Soliday. "They keep the city looking beautiful and provide enjoyment for all. It makes a difference when people care about their city, and these awards given to Parks and Recreation reflect just that."

The Guest Relations Services division received the Essential Service Award for striving to provide essential services to the community. The other two were Outstanding Service awards. The department created new state-of-the-art playgrounds, Butterfly Meadows and Caterpillar Crossing.

The department's keepsake coffee-table book, Faces, was also recognized as an outstanding special project.
