STATEHOUSE (Feb. 25, 2022) – Valparaiso High School graduate Lucas White is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.
White, a Valparaiso resident, is the son of Thomas and Shawn White. He is a senior at Indiana State University, where he is majoring in criminology and criminal justice, and minoring in political science.
"This has been a very valuable educational experience, and I've enjoyed learning more about the functions of state government and the roles of legislators," White said. "I am extremely grateful for this learning opportunity and for the wonderful people I have met along the way."
As a legislative intern, White corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Interning with the House of Representatives is a great way for students like Lucas to build their resumes and make professional connections," Soliday said. "As a criminal justice student, Lucas will really benefit from learning about how state laws are made. This internship is providing a solid foundation for him to launch his career."
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
