STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced that Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) will be serving in two leadership capacities for the Indiana House Republican Caucus. In addition to being the Assistant Majority Whip, Rep. Soliday will also be the Chairman of the Roads and Transportation Committee.
All leadership appointments and committee assignments were announced as well. Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the majority party after each election year.
“It is an honor to once again serve Hoosiers as the Roads and Transportation Committee Chairman,” said Rep. Soliday. “As the Crossroads of America, Indiana has a vested interest and responsibility to continually improve our transportation infrastructure while minimizing the economic burden on Hoosier taxpayers.”
In his position as the Assistant Majority Whip, Rep. Soliday will support Rep. Frizzell (R-Indianapolis), Majority Whip, to ensure that the elected representatives of his party are in attendance when important votes are taken.
Additional to his leadership roles, Rep. Soliday will also be serving as a member of the following committees: Utilities and Energy, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety and Elections and Apportionment.
“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know that they are each eager to begin their committee work and their leadership roles,” said Speaker Bosma. “We are preparing a new generation of legislative leadership in Indiana, armed to deal with today’s critical problems. Our constituents expect us to work together, and I assure Hoosiers that we will.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
