Note to the press: Please include the following statement from State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) in your coverage of the governor’s announcement to expand Interstate 65 in Lake County to three lanes in each direction from Merrillville south to at least State Road 2 (Exit 240) near Lowell.
“This major project will help to reduce congestion along the interstate while also increasing access for motorists to employment opportunities, education and commerce in northwest Indiana. The governor’s announcement is a significant endorsement for Lake County and will provide a notable return for area taxpayers.
I am happy that the state has made expanding Interstate 65 in Lake County one of its top priorities. As we look to the upcoming legislative session, it is critical that the General Assembly finds ways to provide additional funding for Indiana’s roads and bridges so we may support our transportation infrastructure for future generations.”
