STATEHOUSE (April 7, 2021) – Daleville Junior-Senior High School graduate Kayla Skinner is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) and her fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2021 legislative session.

Skinner, a Daleville resident, is the daughter of Kevin and Candice Skinner. She recently graduated from Indiana University Bloomington where she majored in English and received her Bachelor of the Arts degree.

“As someone who grew up in a small town, I thought the closest I would ever get to the Statehouse was through school field trips," Skinner said. "I enjoy every day that I spend here and try to get the most out of the experience. I get to see legislation be developed, discussed, and passed. I am also able to use my skills as an English major to respond to constituents and articulate the many details pertaining to a piece of legislation. The learning opportunities with this internship are endless, and I highly recommend it for any Daleville student."

As a legislative intern, Skinner corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings.

“I've been impressed and grateful for all the hard work all of our interns have put in this session," Rowray said. "This is such a great opportunity for young Hoosiers to get involved, and gain tangible skills and experience that can help set them apart from other candidates during their job search."

Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
