STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2024) – LaPorte County native Niko Cabela is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2024 legislative session.
Cabela, a Marquette Catholic High School graduate, is the son of Elmer and Minda-Jemma Cabela. He recently graduated from Purdue University Northwest with a degree in history.
“This experience is so unique, and each day is different from the last,” Cabela said. "I love getting to know all the representatives and diving into interesting topics.”
As a legislative intern, Cabela corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Interning at the Statehouse is a great way for students to get their feet wet in public policy and the legislative process," Pressel said. “Niko has been a wonderful addition to this session, and I can't wait to see what he does with the skills and experience he gains from this internship."
At the start of each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
