STATEHOUSE (Jan. 10, 2024) – The House Roads and Transportation Committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to advance a resolution authored by State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) to honor fallen Farmland firefighter Kyle Osgood.
Prescott said the resolution would rename the portion of State Road 32 from County Road 900 West to State Road 1 the "Kyle Osgood Memorial Mile."
"Kyle truly fits the definition of 'hometown hero,' and it's a high honor to be able to recognize his sacrifice in the Indiana House of Representatives," Prescott said. "Although his family and his brothers and sisters in the fire department miss him greatly, it's heartening to know that our community has rallied around his memory in this way."
Osgood followed in his father's footsteps by serving on the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He died responding to a barn fire in Randolph County on May 25, 2023.
Osgood's wife, Darby, and Jeff Willen, a member of the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department, spoke in favor of the resolution during the committee hearing at the Indiana Statehouse.
House Concurrent Resolution 3 now heads to the full House for further consideration.
