STATEHOUSE (April 2, 2019) — Local graduates are gaining experience as interns with State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) and his fellow members of the House of Representatives during the 2019 legislative session.

Evan DeWitt, a resident of Yorktown, is the son of Matthew and Melissa DeWitt. He is a graduate of Yorktown High School and attends Indiana University Bloomington where he studies political science.

“I am kept very busy, but I am having a fantastic experience as an intern,” DeWitt said. “I have made friends and memories that will last a lifetime.”

As a legislative intern, DeWitt corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.

Sydney Livingston, a resident of Union City, is the daughter of Darby and Amanda Livingston. She is a graduate of Union City Junior-Senior High School and attends IUPUI where she is majoring in communication studies, minoring in political science and earning a certificate in public relations.

“Interning at the Statehouse has been an incredible experience,” Livingston said. “I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time, and I know I’m gaining experience and skills I can carry with me throughout my professional career.”

As an intern in the House Majority Communications Office, Livingston helps write press releases, create legislative handouts and assist with media relations.

“Being a freshmen legislator and new to the Statehouse, it is impressive seeing young men and women from our communities active in our state government,” Prescott said. “Interns are important to the legislative process because they help move things forward, both on the House floor and behind the scenes. I encourage all students in our area to look into the opportunity to intern at the Statehouse to gain valuable, real-world experience.”

Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
