Andrew Whitacre on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Jay County Jr.-Sr. High School. The event marked the unveiling of a sign officially naming the State Road 67 bridge over the Salamonie River as the "Lance Corporal Andrew Whitacre Memorial Bridge." Prescott authored the legislative resolution to rename the bridge in Whitacre’s honor. A 2005 graduate of the high school, Whitacre served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps and was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart after sacrificing his life in 2008 to protect fellow Marines during an ambush. Prescott said the ceremony honored Whitacre’s legacy as a local hero whose courage continues to inspire the Jay County community. Read the full resolution here.
