STATEHOUSE (Jan. 13, 2025) – State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) recently hosted a listening tour to visit and hear from local business owners, leaders and constituents in House District 36.
"Our district's hardworking business owners and local leaders play a vital role in creating jobs and strengthening our community," Pierce said. "I’m committed to ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to thrive."
Pierce began in Alexandria to tour Megawatt's Bitcoin mining facility, where he met with CEO Ilya Rekhter and Facilities Supervisor Wayne Highfield. They shared information about their business as well as how mining facilities take part in the larger cryptocurrency market. Pierce said the tour was very informative and provided him insight on this emerging industry.
The visit continued with Pierce gaining a closer look at the Christian Center in Anderson. The Christian Center is a faith-based nonprofit shelter that was founded in 1955 and maintains a 24/7 "no turn away" policy. Immediate physical needs are met, as guests sign up for beds, eat three meals a day, take showers, receive haircuts and pick out fresh clothes. The center also offers a Men's Recovery Program focused on helping men find freedom from addiction through counseling, biblical teachings and education.
Pierce's tour was led by Rob Spaulding, executive director of the Christian Center. They visited the community dining room, civic center and utilities building. He also viewed the chapel as well as the Red Door Vintage & Thrift shop. The shop provides vouchers for individuals and families who can’t afford items from the store. Pierce also received a first look of the buildings the center hopes to renovate into a women's program soon.
"As we begin a new year and legislative session, I look forward to making progress together to strengthen our communities, accelerate our local economy and improve the lives of Hoosiers in our district."
The tour wrapped up in Anderson where Pierce met with local leaders to discuss updates on district plans, address concerns and strategize community improvements.
