STATEHOUSE (Sept. 16, 2026) – State Rep. Tim O'Brien on Tuesday completed a 24-hour ride-along with the Evansville Fire Department.
The firefighters of Station 10 met O'Brien on Monday morning during their routine shift change. He spent the entirety of the 24-hour shift with the Station 10 crew, joining them on their calls.
O'Brien, who serves on the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, said meeting face to face with firefighters and seeing their needs firsthand will help him better serve first responders through his work on the committee.
"Spending this 24-hour shift with Station 10 helped me understand the full scope of what firefighters do for our community," O'Brien said. "I'm incredibly grateful to the firefighters and first responders who put themselves on the line every day to keep our communities safe, and I appreciate the crew welcoming me along. I'll carry their perspective with me as we work on public safety issues at the Statehouse."
O'Brien also completed a 24-hour ride-along on the Fourth of July last year. This week's visit gave him another opportunity to spend a full shift alongside the first responders whose work he considers on the committee. Together, the two visits gave him a firsthand look at the work first responders do on both a holiday and a regular shift.
Earlier this year, O'Brien supported Senate Enrolled Act 180, a law that makes it easier for firefighters injured in the line of duty to access medical benefits.
