Rep. Morris Applauds Fred H. Croninger Elementary School

STATEHOUSE-State Representative Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) applauds Fred H. Croninger Elementary school for their exceptionally high ISTEP score for the year 2011. Today, the Indiana Department of Education released the results for the spring 2011 ISTEP+ tests in third through eighth grades.  Fred H. Croninger Elementary school passed with a score of 90.7% this year.

The spring 2011 ISTEP+ test is based on Indiana's Academic Standards and includes the following grade levels and content areas:

·         English/language arts in grades 3-8

·          Mathematics in grades 3-8

·          Science in grades 4 and 6

·          Social studies in grades 5 and 7

"This is a significant achievement and all the students, teachers and staff of Fred H. Croninger Elementary school should feel very proud of themselves," said Rep. Morris. "I also want to say congratulations to Fort Wayne Community Schools for improving their scores as an entire school district by over 4%."

 The Indiana Statewide Testing for Education Progress (ISTEP) measures what students know and are able to do at each grade level in core academic subjects.

According to a release from the Indiana Department of Education, 70.2 percent of students passed both the English/Language Arts and Mathematics portions of the exam. In individual subjects, the assessment resulted in statewide pass rates of 78 percent in English/Language Arts, 79 percent in Mathematics, 69 percent in Science and 67 percent in Social Studies. In total, 963 Indiana schools saw improvement on their test scores.

"This school is an excellent example of what a school can accomplish with hard work," said Rep. Morris.
