STATEHOUSE (July 20, 2022) – State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) recently received appointments to serve on several key summer study committees.

State legislators serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall, and examine top policy issues, gather public input and recommend legislation for the regular session beginning in January.

Miller will serve as co-chair of the Housing Task Force, a group established by legislation he authored, to review data on housing shortages in Indiana for low-income and middle-income households. They will review state laws that affect the local regulation of housing, and review efforts in other states and municipalities to address housing shortages through changes to zoning and land-use restrictions. The task force will also consider measures that would encourage increased housing options in Indiana.

"These summer study committees are a great time to look at topics in the state and see where we can make the biggest improvements for Hoosiers," Miller said. "My goal with the Housing Task Force is to increase housing options in Indiana, and connect people to more transit and work opportunities."

Miller, chair of the House Government and Regulatory Reform will also serve on the Interim Study Committee on Government, which will identify all interstate compacts to which the state is a party and consider whether to remain a party or to withdraw. Miller previously co-authored legislation to repeal certain government bodies that no longer meet as part of his continued efforts to streamline state government and save taxpayer dollars.

According to Miller, members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
