STATEHOUSE – State Representative Wendy McNamara (R-Mount Vernon) will present the town of New Harmony with a proclamation from Gov. Pence on Friday, Aug. 8 recognizing New Harmony as the “Capital for the Day.”
The ceremony on Friday will celebrate the accomplishments of the community, honor community leaders and highlight New Harmony as the “Capital for the Day.”
“It is a privilege to join New Harmony in celebrating their bicentennial event and recognize them as the ‘Capital for the Day,’” said Rep. McNamara. “Celebrations will continue all weekend, and I look forward to seeing many community members there.”
New Harmony, a quiet, quaint town of under 1,000 residents is known nationally for establishing a Utopian community. Tourists and residents alike love the town for its historic buildings, sculptures, gardens and ample spaces designed for quiet meditation and spiritual renewal.
“Each time I visit New Harmony I am taken aback by the beauty, originality and welcoming community,” said Rep. McNamara. “The rich history, beautiful setting and perfectly preserved buildings are what make this town rare. Everyone in Indiana should visit New Harmony at least once in their lifetime.”
