EDITOR’S NOTE — Please include the following statement from State Representative Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) in your coverage of the passage of the state’s biennial budget.
STATEHOUSE – “Serving on the Ways and Means Committee, I appreciate the tremendous amount of time and effort that goes into crafting our budget, and I am pleased with the results. This budget places taxpayer protection first by living within our means and maintaining healthy reserves.
“This biennium, we have made the largest education investment in state history, totaling just under $470 million. I am proud of our efforts to improve education for every Hoosier student by raising the per pupil foundation amount that schools receive. Schools in our district will benefit from this increase. It also reduces the disparity between the highest and lowest funded public schools and lays the groundwork for future funding increases to be applied to the foundation amount, which helps each and every Hoosier student. This budget reflects our commitment to education as one of our state’s highest priorities.”
