“In looking back at this short session and what we were able to accomplish, I’m pleased with the progress we made on critical issues. We promised to focus on promoting preschool education, equipping workforce development efforts, lowering taxes, bolstering the state’s transportation network and limiting the government bureaucracy and red-tape that Hoosier small businesses have to deal with. We delivered on these promises.
“I am particularly proud of our work to equip the Hoosier workforce. In just four years, it is estimated that 55 percent of Indiana’s jobs will require some postsecondary education, however only a third of current working age Hoosiers have an associate’s degree or higher. To address this problem, we passed legislation which will provide grants to school corporations who partner with businesses for internships in high wage, high demand jobs. This will help students gain real-world experience and utilize their area of academic studies.
“I am eager to continue our work to benefit every citizen. There are many challenges that face us every day. I know that by working together we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of Hoosiers.”
