STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Representative Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) was appointed to serve on the Ways and Means and Insurance committees.
“I am excited to return to both of these committees where I feel I can best serve the people of District 60 and the state of Indiana,” said Rep. Mayfield. “As the owner of an independent insurance agency, the Insurance Committee is a natural fit for me. In addition, as a member of the influential Ways and Means Committee, I look forward to playing a direct role in the formation of Indiana’s biennial budget. In both capacities, I will continue to work to keep our state accountable to the Hoosiers we represent.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution. I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process,” said Speaker Bosma.
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
