STATEHOUSE (Feb. 28, 2020) – Martinsville native Erica Szczechowski is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) and fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2020 legislative session.
Szczechowski is the daughter of Victor and Jackie Szczechowski. She graduated from the University of Dayton, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications and minoring in Spanish and sociology.
“I remember being inspired by Representative Mayfield as I walked in the same parade as her seven years ago,” Szczechowski said. “That particular experience served as an influence on decisions I made regarding my future ambitions. This internship has been amazing and educational, and will benefit me in many ways as I continue growing.”
As a legislative intern, Szczechowski corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails, while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
“This internship is a valuable opportunity for interns because of the knowledge, skills and connections they gain,” Mayfield said. “It is a pleasure to see young people like Erica become more civically engaged as they start advancing toward their professional career.”
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
