EDITOR’S NOTE: State Representative Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) issued the following statement regarding the letter Governor Mike Pence sent announcing his opposition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan.
STATEHOUSE – “I share the same concerns as Gov. Pence regarding the EPA’s overreach. Indiana, as well as our nation, needs a diversified energy strategy that uses the full spectrum of the energy resources we have available. That strategy must include coal which burns 80 percent cleaner today than it did decades ago due to advances in technology.
“The EPA’s energy approach places Indiana and similar states in a tough position and will escalate electricity prices to a level that many experts and studies indicate would not only hurt our state’s economy, but Hoosier families as well, especially those on fixed incomes. As a state leader, my goal is to protect Hoosiers from harmful policies that have no place in my district or Indiana.”
