STATEHOUSE (March 30, 2023) – Logansport High School graduates Kevin Todd and Nick Yax are gaining experience as interns with State Rep. Ethan Manning (R-Logansport) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2023 legislative session.
Todd, a resident of Logansport, is the son of Jeff and Tammy Todd. He is currently attending Ball State University and is majoring in political economics.
"This internship is providing a lot of experience about state government and how different policies affect Indiana," Todd said. "It's especially helped with understanding Indiana's legislative process. I've enjoyed seeing firsthand how our laws impact Hoosiers and predicting how effective they can be."
As a policy intern, Todd provides data visualization for House bills, researches Indiana Code and prepares committee reports for legislators.
Yax, also a resident of Logansport, is the son of Ryan and Kara Yax. He is currently attending Purdue University and is majoring in business management.
"Interacting with constituents and staff is great training in effective communication," Yax said. "Working with legislators and being a part of their day-to-day operations has taught me so much over the past few months."
As a legislative intern, Yax corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Kevin and Nick are gaining important skills and professional experience from this internship," Manning said. "These two have tackled real-world responsibilities and learned so much. I can't wait to see what they will be doing in the future."
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
