STATEHOUSE (Feb. 28, 2022) – Columbus East High School graduate Jordan Johnston is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.
Johnston, a North Vernon resident, is the daughter of Jason and Jill Johnston. She is currently attending Purdue University and majoring in psychology, and law and society with a political science minor.
"Being from a small town, I never thought I would be involved in politics, but this internship has given me that opportunity," Johnston said. "My favorite part about this internship has been the relationships I've made with our state representatives. The work I do for them makes every day different, which makes coming to work more exciting."
As a legislative intern, Johnston corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"One of the many perks of an internship at the Statehouse is all the connections interns can make," Lucas said. "I cannot recommend this internship enough to students who are looking to gain valuable knowledge about how their state government works."
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
