STATEHOUSE (Aug. 5, 2024) – Businesses and residents in Pike County and contiguous counties may qualify for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration following damage incurred from storms that rolled through Indiana on July 9.
The SBA and Indiana Department of Homeland Security opened Disaster Loan Outreach Centers at separate locations in Gibson and Posey counties to assist residents in filing claims and answering questions regarding potential assistance to recover from damages. The centers are located at the Owensville Fire Department in Gibson County, 200 S. 1st St. and the Posey County Emergency Management Agency in Mt. Vernon, 311 Mill St. These centers are for those impacted by the July 9 storms only.
"The storms on July 9 affected many people in Pike County and the surrounding areas," Lindauer said. "As costs for damages can get very expensive, this financial relief can help Hoosiers get back on their feet."
Representatives from both agencies will be on site at the disaster centers to answer questions about the loan program and help with applications. Staff from IDHS will be able to answer questions about the Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund, which can be used to cover losses not eligible for SBA loans.
Loans or relief are also available for residents in Gibson, Knox, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties.
Deadlines for residents and businesses in the impacted counties are Sept. 23, 2024, to submit applications for physical property damage while those seeking Economic Injury Loans will have until April 23, 2025, to apply.
Other businesses and organizations located in the designated counties that have suffered significant economic injury from the storm may qualify for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan.
