STATEHOUSE (June 6, 2016) — State Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) was recently recognized by the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) for his legislative leadership on behalf of retired federal employees.

NARFE recognized Koch for his leadership relative to legislation that Koch said brought tax fairness to Civil Service retirees by increasing the maximum amount of the state income tax deduction for federal civil service annuity income to $8,000 in 2015 and $16,000 for 2016 and thereafter, and also making the deduction available to a surviving spouse.

“Because these retirees paid the equivalent of Social Security into the old Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), it is only fair that their retirement income be treated the same as Social Security and Railroad Retirement for Indiana tax purposes.” Koch said.

NARFE is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the earned pay, retirement and health care benefits of federal employees, retirees and their survivors.

Koch was presented with the award by Robert Moss and Barbara Terry of NARFE Chapter 578 in Bedford.

State Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) represents all of Brown County, most of Lawrence County and parts of Monroe, Jackson and Johnson counties.
