“The role of Parks and Recreation Departments has been a significant part of my life for decades,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “From serving as Park Superintendent in Kokomo to the Natural Resource Committee in the House of Representatives, the importance of parks and recreation to the quality of life in our state couldn’t be clearer. This recognition is appreciated, especially from an organization representing half of my professional career.” Rep. Karickhoff received this award for his support of IPRA and the parks and recreation profession. The award was presented at the Awards of Excellence Banquet during the IPRA State Conference in Indianapolis at the Sheraton Hotel. Rep. Karickhoff was nominated for the Legislative Award of Excellence by the IPRA Awards Committee and chosen by their Board of Directors. “On behalf of the Indiana Park and Recreation Association, I’m proud that we are honoring one of our own with the first IPRA Legislative Award,” said Chris Owens, IPRA Executive Director. “Since transitioning to an elected position from the field of parks and recreation, Representative Karickhoff continues to educate our professionals to work more effectively in local government. His efforts are truly appreciated.” IPRA represents 900 different parks and recreation professionals within Indiana. Members include both parks and recreation professionals and citizen advocates. State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves as Budget Subcommittee Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and on the Natural Resources Committee. He is also the vice-chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
