STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2024) – Kokomo native Carsten Beyer is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2024 legislative session.

Beyer is the son of Robert and Donna Beyer. He is a graduate of Insight Schools of Los Angeles, California. He received his bachelor's degree in history and political science from Indiana University Kokomo. He also recently earned a master's degree in political science with a concentration in international relations and comparative politics from Ball State University.

"This is an exciting work environment, where the pace is never the same day-to-day, but it's rewarding for both me and the representatives," Beyer said. "I also get to interact with their constituents, assisting them in a variety of ways. Interning at the Statehouse makes me a part of something bigger than myself."

"Our interns come in every day and build important career skills while also helping us out here at the Statehouse," Karickhoff said. "Carsten is very hardworking, and we're happy to have him on our team."

As a legislative intern, Beyer corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.

Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
