STATEHOUSE (June 1, 2022) – State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) recently attended the inaugural Indiana Global Economic Summit to discuss economic issues, and drive more new business to Kokomo and the state.
Karickhoff, who was selected to attend the event by House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers), joined more than 800 people and nearly 30 international delegations at the two-day event in Indianapolis.
"This was a great opportunity for Indiana to show our momentum and the ways we're moving our economy forward on a global stage," Karickhoff said. "We continue to receive national recognition as a leader in job creation and maintaining a business-friendly environment. We're growing our reputation as groundbreakers for cutting-edge innovation and technology by creating thousands of high-wage and high-skill positions. My goal is to keep working hard for our local communities, so we can continue to attract top businesses and talent to our region."
Karickhoff said Indiana has received a lot of great news just in the last week about businesses expanding or locating to the state. Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and Samsung SDI announced plans for a $2.5 billion electric-vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Kokomo, which will create up to 1,400 full-time jobs. Eli Lilly and Co. also announced it would invest $2.1 billion in Boone County to build a pair of manufacturing facilities. McLaren Racing announced on May 26 the company will spend $25 million to build an IndyCar team office, workshop and training center in Whitestown.
The summit began May 26 with two days of panel discussions and meetings, and the event was capped off with participants attending the Indianapolis 500. To learn more about the summit, visit iges2022.com.
