STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2025) – Marion County native Devon Humphery is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Andrew Ireland (R-Indianapolis) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2025 legislative session.
Humphery, a Franklin Central High School graduate, is the son of Adrienne Smith and Jerry Humphery, and stepson of Jim Smith. He is currently studying at Ball State University and majoring in emerging media design and development.
"It's a humbling experience to have the opportunity to make decisions that truly impact Hoosiers," Humphery said. "Surrounded by incredible individuals, I've learned that coming into this role without a political background, everyone has the chance to make a difference. It's not your title or talent that matters – it's your heart."
As a legislative intern, Humphery corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Devon has a unique opportunity to assist Hoosiers in a meaningful way," Ireland said. "Interns are incredibly valuable to the Statehouse and he's been helpful to both lawmakers and constituents throughout session."
At the start of each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the annual legislative session.
