Rep. Huston congratulates Statehood Day essay winner
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Todd Huston (R-Fishers) congratulates Reese Knoderer, whose essay finished second in the Annual Statehood Day Essay Competition. Reese is a fourth grade student at New Britton Elementary in Fishers.
“I am proud of Reese and all the students who participated in this wonderful learning opportunity,” said Rep. Huston. “This annual competition is a great way to show students the rich history of Indiana while also celebrating great Hoosier milestones.”
In an effort to kick off Indiana’s 200th Statehood Day, which will be in 2016, this year’s theme was Hoosier Bicentennial Moments. Bicentennial moments could include historical moments, significant events or great moments in time for Indiana or Hoosiers. Reese’s essay was titled “The Indiana Gas Boom.”
“It is great to see one of our own talented students from Fishers being recognized during the celebration today,” said Rep. Huston. “Reese’s hard work and dedication showcases the bright students we have here in Fishers.”
The winners, along with their class, were invited to read their essays at one of the four participating locations in celebration of Indiana’s 198th Statehood Day. Reese read the winning essay at the State Library.
