Teaching is one of the most important occupations in our society. Teachers not only help our students learn to read and write but also leave long lasting impressions on our young people, helping them succeed in their education, careers and family lives.

I want you to join me in recognizing those teachers who have been such a large part of all of our lives. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11. It is a time the nation celebrates and honors our teachers. Tuesday, May 8, is specifically designated as National Teacher Appreciation Day.

Great teachers instill great values, impart long lasting wisdom and take learning from just words on a page to a living, working concept of everyday life. I look forward to recognizing them through Teacher Appreciation Week, and I hope you will join me!

Call or write your favorite teacher. Send him or her an email or a text message.  Let our teachers know they are appreciated, respected and most of all loved!
