“This piece of legislation will expand our one-stop shop to include additional state agencies and will make it easier for them to share information and work collaboratively with businesses,” said Rep. Heuer. “We always want government functions to work for the people and to be easy to use. With HB 1198, we are doing exactly that.”
Currently, Indiana’s state offices’ websites are not collaborative, making it harder for businesses to interact with state agencies. Through this bill, Indiana’s Secretary of State (SOS), the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Revenue will cooperate to expand the current website that will allow for information to be shared with each state agency. Essentially, this bill will create a single point of contact allowing for easier interaction between businesses and the state.
HB 1198 will call for the SOS to assign unique identification numbers to each business that is registered through this “one-stop-shop” and that one number will be shared among these agencies. This website expands on previous legislation that was a part of House Republican’s 2011 agenda, which updated current law to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of state websites, ensuring they are more user-friendly and business oriented.
“This bill continues to receive tremendous, bipartisan support as the House remains focused on economic development and business friendly tools. Limiting bureaucracy allows businesses to spend more time doing what they do best, and I am confident that this legislation will have a positive effect in supporting Indiana businesses,” said Rep. Heuer.
