EDITOR’S NOTE: Please include the following statement from State Representative Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) in your coverage of Senate Bill 101:
STATEHOUSE - “Unfortunately, there has been a tremendous amount of misinformation regarding SB 101. This bill is anything but a license to discriminate. RFRA protects the rights of everyone, regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof. It simply sets a judicial review standard for our state courts to follow if a government action is used to substantially burden an individual’s exercise of religion. RFRA is not inhibiting personal rights, it is making sure the government doesn’t infringe on personal rights.”
“Some form of RFRA is currently applied to 30 other states and the federal government.”
